Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, son of a commercial artist and gradson of an accomplished musician, Edward Martrinez now makes his home in rural Connecticut. His studies at Parson's School of Design, Pratt Institute, The School of Visual Arts and with noted painter Burton Silverman has imbued his work in oil with an aesthetic character and emotional variety of brushwork described by the New York Times as " something monumental".

In Martinez's paintings for both commercial and private commision, there has been introduced a distinctive artistry and desire for beauty as he sees it in everything from advertising to portraiture to children's books. His work reflects the contemporary view of subject matter, a documentation of present day scenes in an almost fastidious attention and exquisitely honed oberservation to detail.

A social and cultural documentist, his work appeals too many of those whose eyes light at a glimpse of images drawn by Toulouse-Lautrec, Daumier, and Seurat. His paintings are of people and have a certain melancholy and isolation about them reflecting a starkness and quiet beauty making wonderful pictures out of the simplest of ingredients.

Marinez clients include among others, Ralph Lauren, Lord & Taylor, Heineken, Dos Equis, AT&T Mergers and Aquisitions and The National Labor Day Foundation. His paintings have appeared in numerous publishers books such as Putnam, William Morrow, Houghton Mifflin and Harcourt Brace. The success of his children's book "Too Many Tamales" secured and invitation to Washington's Kennedy Center Book Fair where the book was a fearured offering.

Most recently he has been painting portraits and landscape commissions in addition to his gallery shows. Marinez has been painting "en plein air" in and around the hills of Litchfield County Connecticut and on trips to his native Argentina.

He has been participant in numerous shows in New York, and Connecticut. Meyer Gallery is the exclusive represenative of Edward Martinez in New Mexico
