Don Brackett has been an artist most of his life, studying art most of his school years as he grew up in New Mexico. Mr. Brackett studied art at the University of New Mexico. He became the president of the New Mexico Watercolor Society. In 1980 he started painting in oil, as he preferred the textural quality of this new medium. Throughout his career as a painter, he has been a plein-aire painter, preferring to paint on location as much as possible.
For more than 30 Years he's been working daily and side by side with his wife, painter P.J. Garoutte. The couple's home in Taos provides the perfect base for daily painting trips to catch the essence of northern New Mexico's exceptional beauty. He intimately knows every mountain road from southern Colorado's San Luis valley to the Mora valley southeast of Taos, and enjoys revisiting favorite areas to observe and paint seasonal changes.
Don moved to Taos, New Mexico in 1988. He has travelled to Mexico, France, Italy, Hawaii, and all over the United States in search of new subject matter for his works. Meyer Gallery is pleased to represent the fine works of Don Brackett.
