Sookyi Lee was born in South Korea and earned her MFA from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. Sookyi works have been included in many important exhibitions such as the Oil Painters of America’s National Juried Exhibition, the National Oil and Acrylic Painter’s Society’s “Best of America” Exhibition, and the Hilton Head Art League’s National Juried Art Exhibition. Her work was also featured in The International Artist Magazine. Sookyi Lee’s artistic experience also includes working as in instructor at the Academy of Art University as well as teaching painting and drawing workshops.

Old masters and many contemporary artists have consistently influenced Lee’s art. Sookyi’s passion for understanding art is her mission in life. To Skookyi Lee, painting is a way for her to appreciate life. Her Paintings are both a representation of the outside world and a reflection of her inside world. By considering emotional reaction and by imagining stories about subjects, she is able to go to beyond superficial representation in order to convey character.
