Karl Jensen has sculpting in his genes. Born in 1965 into an artistic family, he grew up surrounded by art and creativity. Karl's father, Reed Jensen, is himself a sculptor of note who has studied with such renowned artists as Avard Fairbanks, Bruno Innocente, and Alvin Gittins. His great aunt, Elaine Brockbank Evans, taught sculpting at the university level and has work displayed across the country.

The children that Karl sculpts are by turns joyful and serene. He has the ability to capture a moment in time, and to bring something of the freedom of childhood to the viewer. Children are a favorite subject matter for Karl because of their beauty and innocence. "Childhood is a carefree time of joy and play, making it a perfect source of artistic ideas with universal appeal," Jensen explains.

Some of Karl's artistic influences include Ed Fraughton, Bruno Lucchesi, Avard Fairbanks, and Andrew Loomis. He attended the University of Utah, where he studied under Angelo Caravaglia. He also cites living in Utah, a state rich in artistic heritage and natural beauty, as an influence. "It is an environment that fosters artistic achievement," he says. Living in the heart of the Wasatch Mountains, Karl is an avid hiker and runner, and enjoys outdoor activities, especially with his young daughter.

Karl Jensen's work can be found in collections around the country. Meyer Gallery is proud to represent his evocative bronzes in Santa Fe and the Southwest.
