The Rainmaker (rear)
Project Study 31"h
Bronze with Patina and Paint

"The Rainmaker" depicts a 12th century Jornada Mogollon Shaman, holding a beautiful native olla pot, pouring water, with a sacred macaw sitting on the shoulder. The prehistoric Mogollon culture ranged in the area we know as Eastern New Arizona to the Rio Grande River. Water signified life for these natives and certain members of Mogollon culture possessed the knowledge to invoke the power to bring the vital rain. The exotic, brilliant, sacred macaw is portrayed resting on the shaman’s shoulder. These birds were considered the carriers of the sun. This vibrant bronze is a tribute to a long lost culture who left only pottery shards and petroglyphs behind.
