Kicking Bear was born about 1847, the son of a chief of a band of Oglala Sioux. Mounted on his war horse, he was always at odds over hunting grounds and to achieve honors in battle. Kicking Bear distinguished himself in several battles to fight for Lakota land during the War for the Black Hills, including The Battle of Little Big Horn.
